Spiritual people when they do their Sadhana, they develop certain qualities. They think they have reach very high. If you have not developed completely love inside of you. You have not reached anything. And your sadhana is for nothing because the ultimate is : to develop completely love inside of you. Love is not only to say I love you, I love you. It is something burning inside of you, burning only for Him. It is a longing that you can even express. When you are in love with somebody, only the beloved matters, nothing else. When you are in love with God, it is the same sensation but in a stronger way. To long for God is the same as when you are under the water and you grasp for air. Like that we have to long for the Divine. In these times it is not easy to long for God like that but it is not impossible. I have seen normal people who have tremendous love for the Divine. The only thing they want is to serve God and to attain Him. Often they don’t reach Him because this road is very cheeky. He like to see how much you want Him, how much you really long for Him. In love no matter the circumstances, no matter what can come, you will always love Him. This is surrender.

Surrender does not mean to leave the world. You have to do your duty, your Dharma. Outside you can have a luxurious life, but inside you have to surrender to Him. Automatically, you can have outside everything but this will not make you happy. Like Mirabai, she was a princess, she had everything but she was not happy. You have to do your dharma outside in life. Look I play more human than anybody. This is my role, I have to do it. Otherwise I can’t be here. Like that you have to go to school, to your job. But bear in mind what is inside of you. Neverforget about that.Trough out life tests will come and you have to challenge it. If you past the tests you can move to surrendering. Surrender is not to say: OK I love God, I love God, I am surrendering. It is not so easy. You have to surrender completely to Him. If you have sincerely surrendered yourself, nothing can move you. Once you have surrender, you are rooted in yourself. More your surrender more difficult it becomes in the outside. Then it will come left and right but nothing can move you. The outside stay outside.

- How do you know this inner call?

People have a house but they feel something is missing; they have this urge to know more. You buy an object after the other and you are not satisfied, there is always something lacking. This deep emptiness can be filled by everyone, the urge to know more. When you turn inwardly, you have this satisfaction inside yourself.

One learns to observe. People feel it. When they took a decision in life the first feeling they have is always the right one. But the mind comes and the reason told them something else to do. Oops it was wrong. The first feeling was right.

- People are desperate today, what is your message today for them?

When you look at the word, you see that there is a lack of trust. First on has to trust one self. For sure, we are imperfect, but we are all on the way to perfection. When we try to accept oneself: We see our negative qualities but we should stop to focus on our negativity and focus on love and positivity. Instead to concentrate on fear and worry we should hold on to positive.

- Today, people run after material things.

Yes, this brings unhappiness. They try to compare what the others have and think: I still have to reach there, what the others have. Every work is good and important, everybody is in the right place where he is and works.

- The old values we had in the past are decreasing. Why?

The youngsters have a lot of questions. The elders don’t have time to listen. What happens is that the youngsters look then elsewhere: outside and not inside. The respect has to be both ways. Like what Mahatma Gandhi said when a mother asked Gandhi :

- Could you please say to my child to stop eating sweets. Gandhi answered her :

- Please come in one week with your child.

When they came, Gandhi said to the child:

- - You should stop eating sweets. The mother asked Gandhi :

- - Why couldn’t you tell him to stop eating sweets last week?

Gandhi answered:

- - I had to stop it myself. I also love to eat sweets. To advice the child I had to stop myself eating sweets.

The child then stopped eating sweets. You see the respect has to be both ways.

- What is the place of woman?

Woman are the foundation of the culture. In the Hindu tradition always comes first the mother. In the religion also first you call the femine aspect first: Lakshmi Narayan, Sita Ram, Gauri Shankar… The feminine qualities are the sensitiveness, the understanding; Women carry the motherly qualities inside. The mother is always there for the children and always understands the child. The father is strictness and the mother is love.

- Could you say something for the spiritual growth of the Mauritian people?

They should start their spiritual path. Sitting quietly for 15mn a day and forget every thing.

- In the media you can see there is more and more criminality in the society. Why?

What is our duty toward our country? What do we want to show to the world? There was the unity of all the religions in this country, we have to carry on with it. Criminality is because of all the drugs. It’s all about a way of education. You have to explain to the child why something is not good. The government does a good job by giving education to everybody and that will change certain things. It is a choice to be good or not good, to be happy or unhappy. Somebody came to me and told me: I like to take drugs it makes me happy and I asked him: Does it makes you always happy? - No only when I take the drug. – Then the depression comes back? – Yes – So the depression did not disappear afterwards? –No, still there. – They don’t realize that the depression doesn’t disappear because they are bind by habit. Everything which is bind by habit is difficult to let go. Once you realize that you are bind by a habit, you can get out of it. When one changes then it changes also your surroundings.

- What would you like to say to the youngsters?

- First Be yourself. Then respect the elders, it has to be on both ways. The elder have also to respect the younger. In the past the parents were exemple and showing respect. Then find out what you really want, most of the time they do what the parents want. You have to stand on your own feet.

Shri Sai’s deeds and life was full of miracles, but the greatest miracle was His creationof this once inconsequential person to the status of a Sadguru within a period of four years: Kashinath Govind Upasani
Sastri, who later came to be known as ‘Shri Upasani Maharaj’.
Kashinath failed in all the material ventures he undertook. His health also deteriorated substantially due to neglect and lack of comforts, often begging as a means of livelihood, often quenching his hunger only by drinking water. He met Yogi Kulkarni at Rahuri who insisted upon him to meet Sai Baba, as Shirdi was on the way. Ultimately Kashinath came to Shirdi and met Shri Sai on 27th June 1911. Little did he realise at that time that he had met his Sadguru (Master) and that the course of his life would undergo complete thereafter.

To protect Kashinath from all external factors that effect spiritual growth, Sai asked him to go and sit in Khandoba Temple and do nothing so that Sai would be able to do whatever he wills to do i.e. to work within Kashinath and evolve him. Like a mother protecting its child from the on-slaughts of nature and people around even at the cost of her own life, Shri Sai protected Kashinath whole-heartedly and openly. Before the assemblage of jealous devotees who asked about the reason of His extreme grace He said, “yes, yes, everything has been given, whatever he is, good or bad, he is mine. There is no distinction between him and me. Now, the whole responsibility for him rests with me.”

The grace of the Sadguru is immeasurable. It is said that whereas a touch stone can change a stone to gold by mere touch, the Sadguru (Perfect Master) is such a touch-stone who can convert a stone (disciple) to a touch-stone i.e. to His own state (Perfect Master). The Sadguru, at this stage is responsible for everything, good or evil, done by the pupil. At this stage, the Sadguru virtually remains at the mercy of the disciple. By this total sacrifice of Himself, the Sadguru evolves the disciple to a state of perfection i.e. His own state. Shri Sai, once told one of His close-associates that the endeavor should be to create these perfect men so that they can, in turn, spiritually uplift thousands and millions of other souls from the state of Jivatma (bonded souls) to the state of Shivatma (Perfect souls). To evolve Kashinath was no easy task for Shri Sai. It is said that the difference in the state of consciousness between a stone and an ordinary man is what is the difference between an ordinary man and a Sadguru. Like a man turning a piece of stone by the use of hammer, chisel to a beautiful piece of sculpture, the Sadguru can change a gross individual to that of a perfect soul. This is what Shri Sai was trying to do on Kashinath.

How a Satguru trains a disciple

To begin his work Sai told Kashinath “Sit quiet, somehow. Have nothing to do with anyone”. Sai wanted Kashinath not to create further ‘Samskaras’ or impressions for himself in attachment with other people but to draw his mind inwards. As he followed the master, a series of mystic reactions happened in Kashinath and around him.
To make Kashinath realise that, his Guru (Shri Sai) was present in every living being irrespective of the species, He once told Kashinath that he would one day visit Khandoba temple (where Kashinath used to stay). He further said that would Kashinath recognize Him, He would have chillum (earthen pipe for smoking) with him. About two or three months later Kashinath was taking some food to his Guru (Sai, who was sitting at the DwarkaMai mosque). A black dog who had been watching Kashinath while cooking, followed him. Without giving any food to the dog, Kashinath went straight to Sai, who said, “why did you take the trouble to bring the food here, in this hot sun. I was sitting there (i.e. near the temple)”. Kashinath was shocked to hear that his Guru was at the temple and he did not know. He told Sai that there was none in the temple except a black dog. At that, Sai said ‘yes, yes, I was that dog”. Hearing this Kashinath could not stop crying and resolved never again to commit such a blunder. On the next day, while cooking, he watched around cautiously lest the dog would come again. The dog was no where to be seen. A shudra (lower-caste) beggar was found leaning against a wall and watching him cook. Kashinath the Brahmin (Uppermost-caste) grown in the orthodox tradition, immediately asked him to go away. Later when he approached Sai, the latter asked him “yesterday you did not give me food and today you also ordered me not to stand there and drove me away. Do not bring food for me hereafter”. Again Kashinath was surprised and again he was told that ‘shudra’ was Sai Himself. These two lessons taught Kashinath that God and Shri Sai are in everything, and that the essence of God pervades everyone and everything.

Now Upasani Maharaj started losing the sense of his body (Dehabhava) and having visions and feelings of a highly psychic and spiritual nature. For example, one day, he suddenly started seeing circles of light, which expanded and then came near him. These circular specks of light would disappear coming near his body. Now he started seeing spiritual visions inside these circles of light. One day he saw himself standing at some place in the space and saw the whole cosmos including the sun, moon, sky revolving. The whirling cosmos slowly became smaller and smaller, came towards him, and vanished near him or into him. Upasani Maharaj now experienced that the whole world was illusory and revolving and that he, as a soul, was outside it. This was a higher stage in his spiritual growth.

One day Upasani Maharaj saw a vision that in an old building he (Upasani) and Sai were there. Shri Sai beckoned him to bring his ear close to his (Sai) mouth so that he could give a mantra. When Upasani Maharaj tried to do so, a shabby figure, which looked exactly like him tried to pull Maharaj away from Sai. Then Sai beat-up that shabby figure carried him out and burnt him in a pyre. Identifying himself with this figure when Upasani complained about this action (of burning). Shri Sai told him that it was his (Maharaj’s) evil form, which has been burnt. Little later, he saw an illuminated figure of himself. Again on being asked, Sai said that it was his (Maharaj’s) virtuous form. Maharaj was surprised and asked if he had an evil form and also a virtuous form who was he! Shri Sai told him that he was beyond both these forms and was the pure soul the element with which Shri Sai himself was made of.

We forget about our real qualities, the Divine qualities within us. The power of the mind is so great that you will create what you want. That’s why when you read something, instantly you go into the image of that which you are reading. You become identified with that. So what you are reading is very important. If you are reading positive things, you are becoming positive too; you’re creating this positive energy. If we train our mind to be positive at all times, we will create positive things. If we just say “Yes, I want peace in the world. I want to change the world. If little by little you get rid of your negativity. – firstly, the negativity of the mind – and if the mind is transcended and the mind becomes pure, everything that you do will be pure.

When you chant OM, you chant from deep within you, from the microcosmos that you have inside of you. That’s what is said in the Vedas. They talk about the microcosmos, which is deep within humans, where the Divine is seated all the time. That’s why, also, when you sing, if you want to make it more powerful, let it emerge from deep within you, and you will have more power. That’s why when a lion roars, he roars from deep within. You never see a lion roaring very softly from the outside. That’s why he is the king of the animals. The roaring of the lion is so powerful that it sometimes shakes even the Divine!

‘Our vision is to serve the needy children, aged people and animals. We are here to serve the less fortunate and creating a better environment from them.’

OUR FOCUS AND COMMITMENTS!
We are committed to serve the less fortunate children by visiting homes in Nairobi and offering them with what we can such as Food, Wheelchairs, and etc. We will endeavor to visit one home every two months.

OUR RECENT SEVA WAS ON 17TH APRIL2011
Swami Vishwananda Seva Society did a seva yesterday at Mama Fauzia’s Childrens home. The home was originally started in 1989 at Majengo Estate opposite Pumwani District Officer’s Office and it re-located to Kasarani/Mwiki village in early 2006.

The founder member Mrs Muthoni Hasan Fauzia Who comes from Vihiga district started the home with 2 children after acquiring some basic training as a social worker at Crescent Medical Aid. She attributes her motivation to start the home to her humble family background where she grew with 16 siblings.
The first child that she started with was 4 months old and today she provides a home to over 32We arrived at the Home at 12 noon and started assisting in cutting of vegetables and preparing the lunch for the children. This was the first time our seva group had visited this children’s home. The home takes care of children from all backgrounds of culture mostly abandon children, children whose parents are suffering from disabilities. Mama Fauzia has ensured to assist the children in the best possible way and in some cases she has managed to arrange for the children to study in States, Turkey etc.

Recently, Mama Fauzia had undergone surgeries and has not been feeling well. Our sincere prayers for her to get well soon.

OUR MOMENTS...

We received donations from Reema Shah. She donated sweets, bread, rice, tomatoes, potatoes, carrots for the entire seva in the name of her daughter Eesha who also came to assist in this seva. On behalf of the seva group, we thank her and her friends to have joined us in this seva and supporting us where possible. GOD BLESS!

And they were offended by him. But Jesus told them, "A prophet is without honor only in his hometown and in his own home."

You see very well that He came [Christ Jesus], but people were against Him. He came to His own people, who did not recognize Him. It is like it is said: “No one is a prophet in his own land.” It is only afterward that one sees. It is the same with a Master. When you have a Teacher with you, you don’t appreciate it. Nobody appreciates it, then after the Master has passed on, people say: “Oh, how wonderful it would have been if we were there.” But know that whatever is written about a Teacher in his time, it is always good afterward.

Of course everyone wants to be around in that time, but when the Teacher is there, nobody wants to be around, and it is always like that. Afterward, 10 or 20 years after people say, “Oh, how wonderful it would have been if we were there. “ So, this is how the mind of man functions. If you have the chance to be with the Master, take it!

He [Jesus] is calling everyone to resurrect with him and letting the old one, who is inside of you, die and letting the new one resurrect with Him. This is the Resurrection of Christ. Oh, yes, let’s praise Him. He resurrected 2,000 years ago, and even if he had not resurrected, He would still be Christ Himself. But to show the resurrection is possible, to show that God-Realization is possible or your own Realization, He has shown it. He has shown the Way. That is why He said, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Light.

Swami Vishwananda says:

"During the interviews people often complain about their children. They complain that their children don’t listen to them; their children shout at the parents and beat them. It is sad to hear that but who is responsible for this? Do the parents also listen to the children? Parents often have goals for their children but are these goals the goals of the children? If the parents don’t listen to their children, then the children revolt later. If always the parents impose their wish on the child one day, possibly during puberty, the child will come out and revolt.

What the parents put inside the child will come out later. When a woman is pregnant, she projects her love on the embryo. If the pregnant woman goes to prayers they will be also projected into the embryo. If the parents put positivity into the child they will have it back later. If you oppress and pour negativity upon the child you will earn it later. That is why you have to hear all the wishes and expressions of the child. If you ignore them they will come out later.

Every twenty years a new form of children appear, the world is evolving. Twenty years ago the children were different. This is the evolution. That is why the parents have to listen to their children."

In many there will be a tendency towards the ascetic life. They who formerly were sinners and alcoholics will fill the churches and they will feel great thirst for the spiritual life. Many will become monastics. The monasteries will open and the churches will be full of believers. The young will go on pilgrimages to the holy lands. That time will be beautiful. That today they are sinning greatly, will lead them to a deeper repentance.

Our Judgmental Mind

Swami Vishwananda: Our Mind
Our mind is one subject that I like to talk about. First of all, what do we understand of the mind? Mind is: thought, experience, limitation, judgment, boring, worries. All these are qualities of the mind, but yet, not the mind itself. The mind is very quick in creating different realities and different qualities. Judgment is the first quality with which the mind is very good. Experience comes afterwards, because throughout the judgment and throughout the worries, you are experiencing everything. So, the greatest quality of the mind is judgment, and from judgment comes other qualities like criticising, the pride and the ego. All these are qualities of judgment.

Krishna said, ''If the mind dwells on a certain object in the outside, one becomes similar to that object. I will not say that if your mind dwells on a pumpkin, you will become like a pumpkin, but you will have similar qualities. You will be lazy, and you'll be heavy. You develop certain qualities. So that's why it's said to let the mind dwell on the Divine; let the mind be positive. Of course one will say, well, it's easy to say, but difficult to do! But, actually, it is not difficult if you train yourself to think positive and be aware at each moment whether this is a judgment, or is this a criticism? You then analyze it not outside of you, but on yourself, and you'll be able to train your mind.

So, how many people really listen? Here they listen, then they forget, but they're quickly, talking, talking, talking. The tongue goes faster. Sometimes, they're still thinking what they will talk, but the tongue has already said it. This is how quickly the tongue goes. So, watch yourself, you know, daily analyze yourself. Again, I said analyze, not judging, to see how you are functioning, how the mind is functioning. How many judgements have you put? And see if it is judgment or criticism; see it in yourself. Where does this path lie within me? Because if I am seeing a fault in somebody else, it has to be inside of me; it's a mirror. Like that, little by little, you will be able to change yourself, to change your mind, firstly, so that the self can reveal itself to you. So, it's not a process of one month, but it's a daily process throughout life, but it depends on you to change now, to start it now. Perhaps, later on, one day, you will be able when you hear your inner voice, to hear the Divine inside of you. You will be happy listening to this voice and follow it. Jai Guru Dev.

Radiating Light of God

Swami Vishwananda: Looking at the world with Divine eyes, you will see that the world is simply the radiated light of God shining through everything. Keep trying until you have come to that realization and never lose hope. The moment you lose hope, you lose everything. The moment you say, “I can’t do this,” you will not be able to do it. Challenge your fear! Keep reminding yourself that you are part of God. You are in His Divine hands and He will never let go of you. Never! He always will be nearer to you than the breath or the air you are breathing in.

You try to imagine how close God is with the mind. It’s difficult, isn’t it? The mind will never let you imagine God. When you start thinking with the mind of the heart, then you may realize Divinity completely. How does one think with the heart? Meditation is an important element in thinking with the heart as you sit with yourself in silence. Jesus said, “When you pray, go to the darkest corner of your house, close yourself in and talk with your Father.” Christ meant for you to go into the inner chamber of your heart and speak with God. Talk with your true Self, and you will receive an answer. So, what exactly is in this inner chamber of the heart? Therein is just love, nothing else!

Master, Take Me By The Hand. . .
Once a Master was asked by his disciple,
“How is it to find God?” The teacher took the disciple by the hand and dragged him into the water of the Ganges River. When the disciple was in the river, the teacher took the head of the disciple and forced it under the water.

What is happening?

After some time the teacher pulled the head of the disciple out of the river and asked him: “How was it?” The disciple said: “I was trying to breathe for I was suffocating. I was trying to grasp some air; I was battling for air.” The teacher smiled and said: “You want to find God? It is this way. You have to try your best. When this longing for the Divine or for realization, God-realization, whatever name you put on it, is like really suffocating yourself, when you can’t even breathe, then you can say, ”Yes, I’m on the way towards Divinity.” As long as this longing is not like that, you are still here in this world. And that’s how it is to find God.

There was a saint, Chaitanya Das Maharaj, who lived in the 17th century. He always vibrated Gauranga, Gauranga, who is another aspect of Krishna who appeared in 1500. Even while he was sleeping, people would hear 'Gauranga, Gauranga, Gauranga, Gauranga' vibrating from him. Each breath Chaitanya took changed to Gauranga. Chaitanya elevated himself into such a Divine spiritual advancement, that even when he took Samadhi, his whole body was vibrating Gauranga, Gauranga.

By chanting you are making proper use of your tongue. By reciting the name of God, you also are utilizing the hearing, which will become finer until you realize the Divine vibration within yourself. Chanting and attuning to the Divine vibration will lead you to Self-realization or God-realization. Thereby, you attain the love of God completely.

Swami Vishwananda: Like I always say, have faith in your own Self. Have faith that what you are hearing within your heart is true. So many times you hear your heart, but you doubt it. You ask yourself, “Oh, is this really true or not?” You often have doubt like that. As long as you do not believe in what the Divine wants to show you, you will not advance.

The moment you sincerely have faith in what you feel inside your heart, it will manifest in the outside world. Like I say, God gave man the power to create, to have power over everything. You have within you the willpower of construction that comes from the constructive willpower inside the mind.

Deep inside the inner Cosmic Mind, therein lies also the Divine. That is the point where we have to use the mind to achieve the higher state. Very often we say the mind is something apart, something which is very negative. It is true that very often the mind is negative, but we have within us the power to transform it.

As long as man tries to hold onto even one material thing, he will stay on the material level. If you turn inward and focus on the Divine Within [your cosmic mind], the Self, you will feel great happiness and great joy. But for that you must lock in your faith.

Lahiri Mahasaya: Unless and until one humbles oneself, it is not possible to enter the spiritual realms.

Mahavatar Babaji: The worldly man wants to realize God while continuing his daily life. But problems will arise for him, time is short. A simple, unostentatious and highly effective Kriya Yoga is to be taught to him.

Sri Yukteswar: Wisdom is not a mere exhibition in one's dexterity in giving a lecture. The average scholar studies Philosophy superficially and searches only the outward meaning. In this light University degrees and honors seem inferior and are almost trivial. True darshan (philosophy) means self-realization.

We ask ourselves, “What if this limitation is everything?” What you have to do is to face your own limitation. You know very well that this limitation is not you. It is not limitation that is the purpose for which you are here (on Earth). Face it; look deep into the eyes of this limitation and let go of it. As long as you do not look deep into the eyes and face of your limitation, by yourself, you always will be into its game. Unless you like it! Do you? You have free will choice about that.

A great Sufi once said: “You have the choice in life to take it this way or that way; it is your choice.” You are free in that choice, but you will come to a point where the Yogi which is inside of you, the greatness which is inside of you, will have to take the choice also. Your True Self will have to take the choice. And this true choice that is inside of you will overtake the limitation of what you think it is. So, cross over this limitation, face it, don´t have fear. Start first with little things. You know yourself. You know that God will always provide for you. Animal knows that God will provide and we are given more qualities than an animal. So we can realize who we are and that we are all one family that we call humanity.

Everybody talks about humanity but very few really behave human. So, if we say of ourselves that we are part of this society and that we are part of humanity, we should not then behave like an animal. Even animals behave better in society than most humans because they know who they are and they know where they are heading. They trust in the higher consciousness that God will always provide. We have more qualities than an animal, but we pitiful human beings like to degrade ourselves. We like to make ourselves worse than we are actually It is time to cross over this limitation. It is time that you really let what you have inside of you awaken. How many among you, out of fear of what people think of you, are doing or not doing something? Many—and you are limiting yourselves. Be free! That is what your voice inside is calling to you. Your inner voice tells you be free, to learn, and to move on. Truly, life is the most beautiful thing that God has given you. Don´t waste it!

True Meaning of Christmas: As one matures and grows older with the years, you understand the deeper meaning of Christmas. It’s not just a festival where you go to Churches. People of the Christian tradition like to go to Churches for Midnight Mass. And I have been to the Hindu Bhajan singing. Actually, Christmas is not about that! It’s true that Christ was born some 2000 years ago.

Christmas is about celebrating Christ’s birth and life. Because He brought something new to the world; Jesus gave the teaching of forgiveness with Love.Along with Christ, many Avatars have come to Earth. For sure, they all have brought Love, but the Love did not include forgiving. Many Saints have come, prophets have come, but the Love was just, “Yes, I love you”, but there was always a condition to the Love. And also if you did something wrong to them, you would get back what is wrong. But Jesus brought this forgiveness, unconditional love, which is a greater teaching, a greater way of being.

That’s why in prayer the Christians keep reminding all to forgive what you have done wrong, forgiveness of yourself actually. You yourself forgive. It’s not about God forgiving you, but you forgiving yourself.Focus on the Love that you carry inside of you. And Christ is born. It’s nice outside to celebrate Him, but Christ is born inside each one of us. And this rebirth is not only because of Christmas time. He is born continuously in each cell of your body.

Swami Vishwananda explains why it is so important to pray regularly: People ask the question, “Swamiji, why do we have to go to temples? Why do we have to go to prayers to pray?” I tell them: Praying is also a part of Sadhana. This is also why we go to pilgrimage places. These are places where all the energies are gathered in one place.When you go to prayer or when you go to spiritual places, to holy places, you are always going to gain something. You are profiting from all the prayers and all the vibrations which have been collected in those placees.

When you go to holy places, your sadhana gets amplified; it becomes more intense and more powerful. The same thing occurs when you sit down (for meditation) in the same place every day and at the same time, you build up certain energy. When you chant the same Mantra again and again, the energy gets built up. Do not think that when you get up from that place the energy is dissipated. The energy is always there. It’s solely defined at that place when you sit regularly for prayer or meditation.

How Did Jesus Pray
Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane before the crucifixion: “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will’” (Matthew 26:39)
Jesus prayed for guidance in places of quiet solitude - “Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed” (Mark 1:35)

“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed” (Luke 5:16).

Jesus prayed for His disciples and for all believers (all people) -“Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name-the name you gave me-so that they may be one as we are one” (John 17:11

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message (Jesus' disciples), that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you” (John 17:20-21).

Jesus prayed in praise to God, the Father - “At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, ‘I praise you, Father, lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure’” (Luke 10:21).

Jesus prayed prayers of thanksgiving - “While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, ‘Take it; this is my body’” (Mark 14:22),

Jesus prayed in a posture and with an attitude of reverent submission - “Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, ‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will’” (Matthew 26:39).

Jesus prayed in times of anguish – “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground” (Luke 22:44).

“About the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani?’--which means, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?’” (Matthew 27:46

Another example of how Jesus prayed may be found in “The Lord’s Prayer” located in Matthew 6:5-15. This is the time when Jesus taught the disciples how to pray.

Jesus prayed without expectation for He knew the Father heard His prayers and would respond.

Love Like You Have Never Been Hurt Before

Whenever we have a problem, we identify ourselves with the problem, and say, “Oh, God has turned His back on me.” But we don’t realise that we have turned our back on ourselves. If we look deeper within, and if we turn our gaze inwardly, we will find the solution for every problem. Everything that you want to know, it’s just here within us.

Swami Vishwananda: We often ask ourselves how it is to unite with God. We ask, how is this unification and what does one feel in this merging with God?

Actually, when one comes to a point of self-realization, or one has come to the point of complete union with God, one doesn’t ask any questions such as how is this and how is that? Because all the questions and all these things are in the mind. It’s the mind that asks questions.

You have to transcend the mind to understand devotion. Unless you transcend the mind, you will always ask the question, "How is it to unite with God? The mind always wants to be fed with negativity and this is where the mind gets it’s power. The more You feed the mind, the more the mind will have control. The mind's game is to control you, play the game with you, and to make you dance in his game? The more you dance in the game of the mind, the more you will be suffering in it. The more you suffer, the more you will complain. As long as you do not surrender the mind, it’s difficult. And how to surrender the mind is only by chanting the name of God continuously. Loudly chant the name of God. Surrender to the lotus feet of Narayana and leave everything to Him.

Lord Give Me Happiness

We are always on a search. We search for who we are, and we search to understand why we are here on Earth. Many times this searching clicks in the mind, and we ask, “Am I just an incarnation of man born here on Earth?”
You see, this search can last for years and years. You can go around the world looking for some deep experience and to find something that truly will satisfy you. But, because humans always desire new things, you enjoy whatever you have for some time and then the desire disappears. Then you desire something else. Humans always create desires, and you will keep on desiring as long as you want material things. One desire will lead you to another. Do you think this is the true incarnation of mankind? No!

Human beings are said to be Satchitananda. This is a Sanskrit word. Sat means Existence; Chit, the Consciousness; and Ananda is Bliss. Everybody wants bliss, everybody wants to be happy. But if you really, really want to be happy, then you have to be sincere and truthful towards yourself. Then you can ask God, “Lord, give me happiness.” And do you think he will refuse you? He will give what you ask to you. Then it is upon you to maintain the happiness. It is upon you to keep it and help it grow.

In The Beginning

In the beginning, when God created the world, everything was peaceful. There was no aggression. When the mind came into play, the aggression started. We have to reach the point again where all started in the beginning. This is where the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita teach the same. They teach the truth that man can reach that state again.

This state of love that you have inside of you is the source of all things. Let it flow. Do not try to stop it and don’t put any barrier around it. Now you are putting up barriers and how long can these barriers hold this love? It will overflow one day; so let it flow and overflow right now."

Awaken Sweetness in Sadhana

When the mind gets purified, the mind becomes positive. You will see how easy it is also in sadhana. It doesn’t matter if you do not succeed in one goal. I know people like a quick result, perhaps in one month, when they start practicing; they want results very fast.

Know one thing; the faster you go in, the faster you will go out also. It's like when you are cooking. When a Mataji is making syrup and she just takes the fruit and throws it in the syrup and then quickly removes the fruit, will the sweetness go into the food? It will not.You have to let it cook inside. Your sadhana works in the same way. If you just go inside and go out of it, being impatient with yourself, it will be the same as the quickly removed fruit; it will not be sweet.

The sweetness that you have inside of you is waiting to be awakened. It does not matter which path you follow or which sadhana you are doing; how you are doing your sadhana is most important.

To Which Kingdom Does God Belong

Swami Vishwananda: We often hear people asking the question, “Who is God?” I will ask you now, “Who is God?” As long as you have not known Him, you can’t answer this question. Love is God. But how many people realize this love? In which religion does God really belong? Is God Christian? Is God Hindu? Is God Muslim? Is God Buddhist? To which religion does He belong?

Love, and the word love, and everywhere you go, you will see there is only one God, and that is love. It’s in each one’s heart. But how do we realize this love? We are so busy with this material world that we forget about the Divine love. We try to look for this love in the outside world. We try to look for this love in other people. We try to look for this love by traveling around the world. We forget that we have to travel, not outside, but inside, to find this love in ourselves. We have to realize our closeness to this Divine love, which is inside, in our heart. Some people will say it’s very difficult to reach this point, but I will say it’s very easy. You just need to want it. People try to find the easy way. If people could buy love, they would. But love can’t be bought. If somebody comes and tells you, “Listen, I will make you be able realize this Divine love.” It’s not true as only the Guru can do that. Only by the grace of the Master can you realize this Divine Love.

Swami's Hints

“From then on, I searched more attentively for Swami’s hints and meanings that hid behind His loving words.”
During the time when I first started living at his Ashram, one day Swami Vishwananda was speaking to several people around me. I was sitting a slight distance away and was not paying attention to the conversation. Lost in my thoughts, I suddenly heard Swami’s voice call out, “Maja, can you see how many arms God has?” He was pointing to the Tibetan picture of the Buddha hanging on the wall. Before I even had time to comprehend His question, Swami had already resumed His conversation with the others.

The question Swami had posed hounded me for hours and made me very restless. Hence the next day when there was no one in the room, I tried to count the arms of Buddha. However I found that there were so many arms, heads and eyes, that it made the task impossible. The following day I woke up and again the same question popped into my head. Just at that moment, a sparrow appeared on the bush just outside my window. I could very easily and clearly see its eyes and how they stared intently at me. At that instant, a ray of realization connected to my inner being from that tiny bird. I felt that God was watching over me and that He had always kept His Loving gaze on me. I realized from that moment that every arm is His arm and every eye is His eye. From then on, I searched more attentively for Swami’s hints and meanings that hid behind His loving words.

Jesus and Krishna Taught Us

Swami Vishwananda: What have all the great masters like Jesus and Krishna taught us?
They have taught us to realise our Self! They have taught us the way. There are different ways to realise the Divine:

There is the path of bhakti.
There is the path of service.

There is the path of meditation.

But each path has its own way to realise the Divine.

"When the mother is holding her child, there is no condition (Unconditional Love). Such is also the love of God. Whatever you have done good or bad, when you turn to Him, who has the love of a million mothers inside of Him, He will happily forgive."

Somebody asked me, “I’m always talking to God, but why can’t I see God?” Many of you have this question.

We sit down for meditation and prayer, but still we don’t see Him! You see. whenever you sit down for meditation and prayer, do not expect anything. As long as you expect something, you are limiting everything from happening. Because your mind is not really focusing on the Divine, your mind is not really focusing on God. It is focusing on the want. So you have to let go of this wanting to know God.

This is the main desire of humans: to want God! But you have to let go of this want and the moment you let go of this want, you will see the light! We call it antahkarana, “the light within.”

All Forms of the Divine are One

Swami Vishwananda: The Divine will take any form in which you call him. He is not bound by any limitation of the mind. He can manifest Himself the way you call Him. Call Him as Jesus, He will come as Jesus. When you call Him Krishna, He will come as Krishna. It’s not that you call Him as Jesus and He will appear as Narshinga Dev (Narasimha) in front of you! Some would never believe in Narshinga Dev. When somebody believes in Krishna and the Divine appears as Jesus, it would be strange; wouldn’t it?

Once, in India, there were three friends who were arguing. They were looking at a chameleon moving along a tree branch. One of the three friends said that the chameleon was green. The second one said, "No, no, it’s not green, it’s red." Then the third one said, "No, it’s brown." So, they were busy fighting with each other about what color the chameleon really was.

After some time, one of the three friends said, “Let’s go and ask the saint who is sitting under the tree over there.” So, they went and one friend asked the saint saying, “My dear holy man, is this chameleon green?” The saint said, “Yes.” The second friend said, “No, no, no, no, no, it’s red. Again the saint said, “Yes.” Then the third friend said, “No, no, no, no, no, that chameleon is brown.” Again the saint said, “Yes.” Of course they were all shocked that the saint always said, “Yes.” Then the saint explained to them: “It’s true that the chameleon displayed all the colors that you all said. Why? A chameleon changes colors according to where it is sitting.” Such is the Divine also. He will always come in the form and in the way you call Him.

Only Love of Devotee Binds God

We are living in a dream state. When we awaken, we see the reality. But this reality is not to be understood with the mind.

Attaining the true reality of who you really are is the purpose of human birth. We will attain this reality only through unconditional love, the same love as God loves. Do you think His love is bound by any limitation, or what we understand of Him, or how we dress Him? The love of God is not bound by anything. It is only the love of His devotee that binds God.

Scream--God Give Me Realization

Swami Vishwananda: If a child wants something, the child will do anything to get it. In the same way, when Jesus talked about how to enter the kingdom of God one has to be like a child who wants it very badly. Such a one will scream to the Father, “God give me realization. God reveal Yourself to me. Reveal my purpose for being here on Earth.” Many people start, but in the middle, they lose hope and give up. But, of course, it is they, themselves, that stop the realization, not God,

Love is a word that for centuries has been used and misused. In the name of Love, and in the name of God, many bad things have happened. But it’s up to each one of you to rectify and to reflect what Love really is. You must reflect that you truly are part of God. Love is not just a word. It is not just a sound. Love is also something we can see with our eyes. You’re the child of God? Then prove that you are the child of God. Show that you’re the child of God. Have this deep determination of realizing God. Have this deep desire to realize who you really are. And you will have it.

Let Love be the most important thing in your life. Let God be the most important thing in your life. In Him there is everything. Whatever you desire is in Him, in your true Self. Otherwise, you will always have things that are limited; and these things will always make you unhappy. Try for real happiness, and really become the Satchitananda that God has created in each one of you. If you really want that, you will have it. It doesn’t matter how long it takes. It can also happen right now. If you are 100 percent sure of yourself everything will be given to you.
